My husband and I ate here on the Saturday before Easter during a weekend trip to Golden. Neither of us had ever been to any of the Blackhawk casinos or restaurants, so we weren't sure what to expect. I'm vegetarian, so I really wasn't sure what kind of selection there would be for me but I figured if nothing else, I could have bread, salad and dessert. When we got there around 6, there was a huge line to get in. Unfortunately the line was incredibly slow-moving, and I couldn't even see the register area for a good 20 minutes. I can't remember how long we waited but it had to be at least 30-45 minutes. For some reason the whole process of paying and telling them what drink you wanted was incredibly slow as well. We really didn't understand what the hold-up was, because there were plenty of empty tables. Finally we were seated and had a chance to check out the food selection. The buffet was larger than I'd expected, and the selection was okay. There were several different sections for various types of food... Asian, Mexican, Italian, salads, breads, desserts, etc. I guess there was more there for me to eat than I'd expected, but I didn't trust a lot of things (like the mushroom risotto or soups, which I assumed had chicken stock in them). I know I could've asked someone but I just stuck to things I knew were okay (guacamole tacos, pasta, bread, veggies). Overall, it definitely wasn't worth the price for me to eat there but I didn't mind going so my husband could enjoy the seafood and various meat entrees (and I did my best to eat my money's worth of desserts!). To be honest, I wasn't terribly impressed with the quality of the food. I'd say the entrees were average at best, with a couple of things really not tasting any better than something you'd find at a Country Buffet, and a couple of things standing out a bit more. Everything seemed very fresh and when something ran out, it was refilled fairly quickly but I was there during the peak dinner rush so I would hope that would be the case! The thing that really saved the buffet for me was the dessert section. I am actually not a huge dessert fan, but I tried a bunch of different things and they were all pretty excellent. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of room left by the time I made it to dessert, but I still managed to sample a fair amount of things. They had everything from cookies to eclairs to pie to ice cream to tarts and 7-layer bars, and it was all very good. I think if I hadn't been to Vegas, I might've been more impressed with this place but even though my expectations weren't that high, I just didn't find it worth going back to again. I know the main draw seemed to be the crab legs (and obviously I didn't try those), but my husband had those and wasn't that impressed either. For $20-something, you get to try a variety of foods and it's something different, so I would recommend trying it at least once. I can't see myself going back other than to bring visitors, really, but it was definitely worth checking out at least once.

Big selection of inedible food, the best way to summarize our experience. I don't know who they have working as cooks, but they are obviously clueless, I recommend a training class where they are introduced to the basics, like salt and pepper. Chicken marsala is deep fried and served in a green pesto sauce? Gnocchi is a shell pasta? Tamales are actually an enchilada with unmelted cheese inside of it? Most deep fried items have a bad aftertaste, as if they were cooked in oil that hasn't been replaced in a long time. I learned a valuable lesson during my two day stay at Ameristar, their restaurants are just flat out terrible.

Crab legs. Lots and lots of crab legs. They also have Mexican, Asian, salad, desserts stations. Made to order pho, decent for a buffet. They also have rangy crab (cua rang moi)!

Fantastic food. Incredible selections. The best desert bar. $$$$pricey Ameristar beats any Las Vegas Buffet by miles. The other reviews are angry guests who may have lost a few dollars. I would take Ameristar over Vegas slop any day. The best West of the Mississippi.

I went, I ate, I conquered. I haven't eaten at a buffet in a very long time and I don't entirely miss them that much. There's just too much food and you'll more than likely leave feeling miserably full in a strangely blissful sort of way. This buffet is pretty typical of a standard buffet, but on Saturdays they happen to have all-you-can-eat crab legs, which is what brought me to this buffet. We arrived right when they opened at 4:00, because according to my friend they fill up very quickly on most Saturdays and they don't take reservations, so the line can get extremely long to get in. We were with a very large group and called ahead just to warn them that we were coming, which I'm sure they appreciated. We had no problem getting in and didn't even have to wait. The selection of food is pretty expansive. They have a giant salad bar in the middle of the food area with all the usual salad bar items, plus more. I didn't touch any of this, as they are just a filler in my opinion. I came with a mission and that was to eat my body weight in crab legs. I did inspect each of the various offerings and ate a couple other items, but mainly stuck with the crab legs. They had an Italian section, an Indian and Mexican section, an American section with mashed potatoes, various cuts of meat, and fried chicken. They also had an Asian section that even had made-to-order pho. I sampled a few items from the Asian fare and was happy with what I had. The crab legs are what had my attention throughout the meal. They were your standard all-you-can-eat style crab legs. I suppose they would be classified as snow crab legs. You have to work a little harder for the meat inside of this type. However, If you are a seasoned crab leg eating veteran with your technique down, you won't have too hard of a time scoring some large pieces of crab meat. I ate, and ate, and ate crab legs, and I don't feel guilty about it. They're deliciously messy to eat and hard to screw up. I might point out that this particular buffet is in the Ameristar Hotel and Casino. I'm not a gambler, but I took my chance on this place and came home pretty happy.

I can't believe we waited an hour for a buffet at a casino. Vacation fail. The food was decent, maybe even above expectations, but the service, particularly the wait given that over half the seating was open, was just horrendous. Never again.

Centennial Buffet is not as bad as some ppl make it out to be. As long as you go on a weekend evening and for $21.99/person its not too bad. King Crab Leg quality isn't that great as compared to Calypso's but Centennial has much more variety & better quality food. Seating furniture & atmosphere is also better than Calypso's which feels like a cafeteria. Since they rotate their menu; food will vary. When I first went there: New England clam chowder soup & their Italian potato pasta gnocchi was amazing. However next several times I visited; they did not have it. Like all buffets; the more you go; the worse it gets as one knit picks on the quality & taste of the food. But overall; compared to all the other buffets around this area I would say this the best one. Yelp should have half star denomination. If so I would give it a 3.5 star instead of 4.

This is an interesting place to review.Well, I was going to rate this buffet 5 stars but I have mixed reviews now. First visit was a Sunday night. The food selection, food quality and staff were 5 star all the way. I read one review about not having enough vegetaran choices, but there were tons... in addition to a huge salad bar, they had tofu dishes, eggplant parmesan, cheese enchiladas, cheese manicotti, pho without or with meat/chicken, vegetarian spring rolls, pasta any way you like it, an entire veggie only bar, vegetarian soup. For the meat eaters, they had prime rib, turkey, many different variety of meat dishes. The prime rib was done to perfection with that nice crust and wonderful au jus, horse radish, or horse radish sauce. It was The Best Buffet I've ever eaten at, and the staff was spot on wonderfully awesome in every way.. friendly, quick service, attentive without hovering, quick refills of drinks, quickly removed dirty plates. I thought "Wow, this is almost worth coming all the way up here just to eat." Then, we went back for Monday lunch. Ugh. Poor food selection, food wasn't the right temperature, staff didn't seem to care as much, had to ask for refills, foods not labeled what they were, food was a little greasy. I can barely believe it's the same place. I did have the opportunity to talk to management and told them I was shocked at the inconsistency. He admitted to having a different staff and having problems with labeling, the staff hadn't turned the hot tables on!! I appreciated his honesty and quickness in responding to fix the situations we had mentioned. Good thing Monday wasn't our first trip or we wouldn't have gone back. Sunday night The Best. Monday, OK. Average rating? Good.

The nice thing about this buffet is that it's virtually free if you have a players card and earn 25 pts of play. The bad thing is, since they've introduced this, the quality has gone WAY downhill. Everything was VERY dry and tough. The only things I halfway enjoyed we're the ribs and the carved tri-tip. Pork chops were drier than Jerky. I guess you get what you pay for.

Ate two meals here recently. Both were uninspired. Lunch was certainly overpriced. Fried chicken was good. They also serve Vietnamese pho, probably as a nod to the significant number of Asians gambling at the Ameristar. Desserts were also good too. However, I must say that this restaurant had the best service I've ever encountered in a buffet, including those at Vegas. Just excellent service.

This is a gluten free review. It is always risky to eat at a buffet, but the staff here was very educated and the food was very well maintained. For comparison the Isle of Capri buffet is tasteless and poorly maintained. We have tried it several times and would only eat there for the crab legs...even the desserts were bad. There were a lot of gluten free options. I was honestly just planning to eat crab legs with no butter and take a look at having a salad with no salad dressing. Instead the head chef came out and showed me everything I could eat (and she knew exactly what she was talking about). There were many salads I could have, from making my own, to a cucumber salad to an anti-pasta salad. They were not sure about the margarine, so they made me fresh butter to have with the crab (which was pretty fresh but it is the mountains). I could have pork chops, ribs, ham, potato's, there were even little risotto cakes. For desert there was custard, fruit, chocolate mousse and ice cream. There were many other options that I didn't have the room to try. My husband, who is not GF loved this buffet too. We will definitely come back here (and the hotel was really nice as well).
